For those that say Venture Capital is dead, there as many who say it is alive and kicking. So, when you really want an answer what do you do? One of the first things you should do is look at the stock market trends over the last 10 years. What you will recognize is that the stock exchange has taken a beating, so why should Venture Capital be any different.
We are in one of the worst recessions since the great depression, and we are a long way away from coming out of it. That doesn't mean that there is no room for venture capital. Far from it. Both India and China have a rapidly rising middle class, some indicate it is as large as the existing global middle class market. That's a lot of opportunity for venture capitalists and entrepreneurs.
Aside from this opportunity, the western world still suffers from broken health care and social systems.
there is still a need for new enterprises that consume serious amounts of capital to produce serious solutions to serious business, health care and environmental problems.
So, can we really say venture capital is dead? I think not. What do you think?
